MapR to Offer Cloud-based Hadoop with Microsoft Azure

Read

A growing collection of integrated services including computing, database, mobile, networking, storage and web.

Simplifying the on-ramp to the cloud, Microsoft and MapR deliver enterprise-grade Hadoop on-demand in the public cloud. Customers will be able to use high-performance, enterprise-grade Hadoop with the cost advantages of Azure’s on-demand cloud services. MapR is architected to provide a scalable and agile Hadoop platform and NoSQL database for big and fast data applications. The MapR Distribution will also be integrated with the Azure Data Lake, enabling users to deploy tiered analytical and storage capabilities in the cloud.

The integration between Microsoft and MapR technologies allows customers to:

  • Deploy MapR directly from the Microsoft Azure Marketplace
  • Transfer data between MapR and any of the Microsoft SQL Server services within Azure
  • Extend the reach of Microsoft Power BI via SQL to data sources in the MapR cluster. For example, Apache Drill, part of the MapR Distribution, uniquely provides the first schema-free SQL engine to instantly analyze semi-structured data without prior data transformation or schema definition
  • Run the MapR-DB NoSQL database for real-time operational workloads (optionally synchronized across all Azure regions)

It’s about unmatched productivity

Any developer or IT professional can be productive with Azure. Azure’s integrated tools, pre-built templates, and managed services make it easier to build and manage enterprise, mobile, web, and Internet of Things (IoT) apps faster, using skills developers and IT professionals already have and technologies they already know. Azure is also the only major cloud provider ranked by Gartner as an industry leader in cloud storage, infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), and platform-as-a-service (PaaS).

It’s open and flexible

Azure supports the broadest selection of operating systems, programming languages, frameworks, tools, databases and devices. Run Linux and Docker containers; build apps with JavaScript, Python, .NET, PHP, Java, Node.js; build backends for iOS, Android, and Windows devices. Azure supports the same technologies millions of developers and IT professionals already rely on and trust.

It enables you to unlock insights

Azure’s predictive analytics services like Machine Learning, Power BI and Stream Analytics are redefining business intelligence. Make smarter decisions, improve customer service, and uncover new business possibilities from your structured, unstructured, and streaming Internet of Things data.
