MapR Chief Application Architect Presents at Fourth Annual Hadoop Conference in Japan

Session Outlines The Evolution of Hadoop within the Enterprise

San Jose, CA – September 27, 2011 – MapR Technologies, Inc. announced that Chief Application Architect, Ted Dunning, presented a keynote address followed by a general technical session at the Hadoop Conference in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday, September 26, 2011. The Annual Hadoop Conference was presented by the Hadoop User Group Japan, which is considered the largest Hadoop User Group in Japan. More than 800 Hadoop practitioners, developers and business executives were expected to attend the conference in Tokyo at the Bellesalle Shiodome Center.

Dr. Dunning’s keynote presentation, titled “How Hadoop Needs to Evolve and Integrate into the Enterprise,” addressed how Hadoop allows new classes of problems to be solved in a dramatically more cost effective way. The discussion touched on various points of interest including the lack of serious consideration for data loss contingencies, the need for better integration with existing systems, and the need for a greater use of existing standard protocols.

During his second session, “Architectural Details and Implications of MapR Technology,” Dr. Dunning presented several key technological breakthroughs in MapR's architecture that allow dramatic increases in scalability, performance and usability. He described how this strong foundation has a dramatic simplifying influence on a variety of applications including text indexing and retrieval, and various machine learning algorithms.
